County Attorney

The mission of the County Attorney is to ensure that all County transactions are conducted in a legal and ethical manner.
The County Attorney provides legal counsel and advice to the County Board, County Manager and staff, County departments, agencies, boards and Commissions, School Board and Retirement Board, and provides representation to them in litigation in state and federal court, as well as before various administrative agencies.

The Arlington County Board appointed Stephen A. MacIsaac the County Attorney in 2000; he has served more than 25 years in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a local government attorney. Prior to joining Arlington, Mr. MacIsaac served 18 years in the Office of County Attorney in Prince William County and was named Deputy County Attorney in 1989.
