Parks & Recreation

The Department of Parks and Recreation promotes wellness and vitality through dynamic programs and attractive public spaces.

Park facilities are available for rent, and a calendar of events and activities organized by the Department is here.   The Department mails a quarterly catalog, Enjoy Arlington! and an annual catalog for Summer Camps for children. You can register to be put on the catalog mailing list here.

The Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation is one of 100 agencies nationwide to have received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 144 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.

Dinesh Tiwari, CPRE, is the Director of the Department.  He comes to Arlington after serving six-years as director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities in Richmond, Va., a department with 340 employees and a $20-million budget. Prior to that, he was director of Parks, Recreation and Facility Management for Suffolk, Va., from 1992 to 1999.
